unboxing: Fair Treasure November 2014

Fair Treasure is my monthly treat to myself that sends me a box of 2-3 beautiful fair-trade creations from artisans around the world. The monetary value of the items for me is always equal or slightly more than the box cost, but the business it creates for the artisans is incredibly valuable to them and their families.

Cost: $35 + free S&H

My box shipped UPS on November 4th, and was transferred to USPS who delivered it to me today.

At first look, I see a very pretty pattern and know I'm going to love this box!

"If you really want to make a friend, go to someone's house and eat with him.. the people who give you their food give you their heart."

-Cesar Chavez

The theme for this month's box is "Hostess with the Mostess" and it included a $5 off coupon code to use towards any purchase in the Fair Treasure collection. I will most likely use it, but won't count it towards the value of the box.

"These beautifully-crafted earrings hail from an artisan cooperative outside of New Delhi. Small groups of women from urban slums in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh work in their homes to learn simple techniques to fashion jewelry and home decor with upcycled saris and other recycled materials. The training and income provided by this craft empowers them financially and strengthens their confidence and support for their families and community."

Yes, these look so me! They are so pretty; I love these earrings a lot!

"Preparing holiday feasts (and baking cookies) is so much better when you have a great apron to wear! These pretty cotton aprons are handmade in Bali by Zen Zen's Fair Trade Federation artisan cooperatives. With respect to the local artisans' lifestyle, traditions and environment, these cooperatives work with village communities, educating them in conservation, sustainable development and organic farming. Everyone employed, including the subcontractors, gets a fair living wage and has good working conditions. Fair trade means fair to everyone - no one gets a huge markup while someone else is getting little."

I don't usually wear an apron when I cook, but maybe I will now that I have this super-pretty one.

As always, I just love my Fair Treasure box, and at a retail value of $51 I know I got a great deal. I will be a subscriber to this box for many months to come!
